I would recommend this toy. I'd also recommend the smaller travel version for long car rides. My son likes it. He's now 2 so he's not a real saavy drawer but he loves telling us what to draw. I'd brush up on your art skills if your child is 3 or below.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 2-year old son. He absolutely loves this toy. He doodles on it by himself, and comes to me often asking to draw Mickey Mouse - his favorite character. My wife and I also draw letters of the alphabet for him and he loves to name them.
We take this toy with us on car trips, and it keeps my son occupied for some time, especially, if there is another passenger who can draw sitting next to him. One warning: this toy is a bit large for car trips, a smaller one would be better for this purpose, but I am not going to purchase two.
As others have mentioned, the pen is attached at the top, and while I agree that the placement is weird, it does not create a problem for us at all.

My 2 year old Grand Son loves to draw and then make it go away and draw some more. Great toy for growing the imagination of the little ones

My grandson loves this toy, always wanting to play with it and sharing it with others. He is only 20 months old. I noticed that there can be "stains" on the toy if the drawing is not erased soon after it is drawn. The drawing pad seems to get darker with use. Otherwise, this toy is great.

My two and a half year old son loves it and so do we. It was a replacement for a smaller version that broke.
